The six-line wrasse or Pseudocheilinus hexataenia belongs to the family Laridae. These fish have 6 neon orange lines running the length of their higher bodies. Their caudal fins are yellow with blue veining and an ocellus ( fake eye ) intended to confuse predators found on the higher part of its base. The most distinguishing feature of these fish is their intense red eyes. 2 white lines run diagonally thru their eyes, one above and the second just under the pupil. This is an intensely active, remarkably fast species. In their natural environment they spend the great majority of their day scrounging around reef formations in pursuit of food. It is thought this cocoon forms a protecting barrier against nightly predation, acting to disguise its smell from potential predators.
